New Windows 11 Pro – Setup and Connect to Microsoft 365

    This will walk you through setting up a new Windows 11 Pro laptop andc onnecting (joining) it to your Microsoft 365 Account.

    This process simplifies Microsoft 365 product (Outlook, Word,PowerPoint, Excel) installation, setup and licensing on your new system.It also reduces the number of times you’ll have to login again after a reboot, update or when required for other security reasons.

    The following steps will walk you through a typical startup experience.

    This is a general guide; your experience may vary. The areas you’ll want to focus which will give you the best experience in the long run are:

    • System name

    • Sign-in and connection to “Work or School"

    • Privacy Settings

    • Setting up a Hello PIN

      Country and Basic Settings

      1. Country = United States, click Yes

      2. Keyboard = US, click Yes

      3. Second Keyboard, click Skip

      4. Select and Connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network or a hardwired connection, click Next

      The system will check for updates. Be patient and allow updates to complete.

      License and System Name

      1. Review and Accept the license agreement (assuming you want to…)

      2. Name your device I recommend the following
        - For Dell systems use LAPTOP-ServiceTag [typically on the bottom of the device]
        - For other systems use LAPTOP-<last 8 characters of the Serial Number>

      System will typically restart at this time, Dell’s restart without warning

      Set up for Work or School

      You will likely be prompted to either Setup for personal use or Set up for work or school.

      • Select Setup for work or school and clickNext

      • Sign in using your username, which is your business Microsoft 365 email address.

      • Privacy, choose

        • Location = Yes

        • Find my device = Yes

        • Diagnostic data = No

        • Inking & typing = No

        • Personalized offers = No

      Click Accept

      Windows Greeting & Next Steps

      You’ll now see Hi. Getting things ready for you. Almost there.

      Next steps are likely to Verify your identity or Multifactor Authentication (MFA) and Set up a PIN. The PIN is for Windows Hello which is a secure shortcut in place of a userid and password for your laptop or desktop. Using Windows Hello will simplify your life and make it more secure. If prompted to also setup a camera or fingerprint reader, please do that as well.

      • If prompted, select Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator App and follow the directions

      • Setup a PIN

        • First, check (enable) Include letters ands ymbols

        • Create a 6 character (or larger) pin you will remember including at least a digit and one or more capital and lowercase letters.

        • Write it down on a piece of paper and put it in your wallet or purse (not with your laptop or in your laptop bag)

        • Enter it in the spaces provided and click OK

      Download and InstallMicrosoft 365 Apps

      This ensures Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. are available on the device.

      1. Open a web browser and go to:
        office.com

      2. Sign in using the business account, something like
        username@company.com

      3. Once signed in, click Install apps (top-right corner).

      4. Select Microsoft 365 apps.

      5. Download the installer and run it.

      6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

      7. After installation, restart the computer if prompted.

      Verify Office Apps AreConnected

      1. Open any Office app (Word, Excel, Outlook).

      2. Go to File → Account.

      3. Ensure the account shows as something like username@company.com.

      4. If not, click Sign in and add theaccount.
